Abstract expressionism emphasized the representation of emotions rather than objects. Most painters of the movement in favor of large canvasses, dramatic colors and brushstrokes. The movement originated in New York’s Greenwich Village in the mid-1940s and also called the action of painting and the New York School. Stressing its independence from European art trends, Abstract Expressionism was the first American school to influence artists of the seas, rather than the reverse.

The motion was moved by Arshile Gorky, whose paintings are from the art of Surrealism, Picasso and Miro. Like Surrealism, psychoanalytic theories of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung was the basis for intellectual and domestic matters submitted. Their influence came from several artists who fled Europe for America during the Second World War, including Piet Mondrian and Max Ernst. Initially these artists of traditional painting inspired by the revolutionary attitude of the abstract expressionist movement. Abstract expressionism held significance until the development of Pop Art in the 1960s. The movement has allowed New York to replace Paris as the center of the art world.

Although Abstract Expressionism encompasses a range of stylistic approaches, several unifying themes were present in the movement. abstract expressionist paintings composed of shapes, lines, forms and aims to create a reality distinct from the visual world. Technically, the abstract expressionists more attention to the quality of surface and texture and used large canvases. Abstract expressionists like to stress the accident and chance in their work, but often planned their performance. Arshile Gorky and Hans Hoffman was an integral part of attracting the attention of artists to the physicality of painting and the expressive potential in abstraction. The two main types are abstract expressionism action painting and Color Field Painting. Action painters like Jackson Pollock would portray texture painting and motion of the hand of the artist. Color Field painters like Mark Rothko were affected by the color and shape to create tables with any peaceful and spiritual representative subject.

Abstract Expressionists saw the painting as a pure expression of emotion and visual communication. Not all works of abstract expressionism was abstract and expressive, although the movement is united in its spontaneous release of unconscious creativity. The act of painting is considered as important as the finished product itself.

Philosophy Research Abstract Expressionism responses to questions of human existence. It addresses personal psychological battles, the struggle between man and external nature, and the hunt for spiritual comfort. All these concepts have been expressed through abstraction, to find meaning in relating the act of painting with a release of feelings and subconscious desires. The movement had a profound impact on subsequent generations of American artists, especially in their use of color and materials.
